If You Are Adopted

Once you are over 18, you can apply to the Registrar General and ask for a copy of your original birth certificate. You will need to pay a fee. Anyone adopted after 30 December 2005 should apply direct to the agency that arranged the adoption.The birth certificate will have on it the names of your natural parents, or parent. You can also ask the court which made the adoption order to let you see its records about your adoption. As a starting point and to get an application for access to birth records contact:
