Where to Look for Jobs?

Local Connexions Centre

Connexions Centres offer lots of help with job hunting. There is a vacancy service and you can get help with letters of application and CVs.  You can also access the vacancies on the website www.workabout.org.uk

Local and national newspapers tend to advertise every day but, may have a special day when they have more job vacancies than others.

Other things that are well worth doing are:

Calling into firms you are interested in working for. Even if a vacancy has not been advertised, some firms will keep your name on file and call you in for an interview if a vacancy arises.

Writing a ‘speculative letter’ - this means writing to a place you would  consider working for, even if a job has not been advertised.  Again, they may keep your letter on file and contact you later. See the letters of application section.

Ask around - tell friends, family and neighbours what you are looking for.  Ask them to tell you if they hear of anything, or if vacancies crop up at their firms.

Keep your eyes peeled - sometimes firms will simply put a card in their window of a local shop window to advertise vacancies.
